IRS is going to be running a little “late” this year.
According to the information received as of today (January 15, 2021), IRS will start processing 2020 Tax Year individual Tax Returns February 12, 2021. Tax Returns can be prepared before February 12 processing date.
Estimated refund processing times for returns that refund extra tax withheld only approximately two weeks–reminder they are still operating under COVID restrictions with limited staff on site.
Refund processing times may be longer if taxpayers are claiming children and/or Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit.
Didn’t receive any or all of the stimulus payments? Hang on! There’s a reconcile on the tax return. If your payment was short, let your tax pro know so they can process the additional credit on your return. . .
After the IRS starts processing returns refund status should be available at the IRS Website: https://www.irs.gov/refunds
