OHIO CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT–ISSUE ONE (See Ballot language, See Full Amendment Text Here)

Promises to end gerrymandering or drawing voting districts to favor a certain political party by appointing a review commission. Commission members are privately appointed. There are no minimum qualifications. Voters have no choice over appointments and no input on who draws the maps. Committee member removal is allowed only in limited circumstances. Committee members appoint a firm to redraw the districts. Voters could only review the maps if the commission is undecided on voting district map approval or if Commission abused its discretion. Review deadlines are short. Supreme Court decides all disputes, decides who reviews the maps and its decisions ARE FINAL.

Question: Would removing the voters from the oversight process prevent gerrymandering? What prevents this commission from doing its own gerrymandering? District redrawing meetings would be public, but does not consider voter availability to attend meetings during regular business hours. Would voter interests be best served in this process? A Ohio Constitutional Amendment is hard to change or remove. Law would be easier to amend.
